After completing six years of service under fast track promotion channel or after twelve years of service under normal promotion channel, a clerk can become a Junior Manager Grade Scale (JMGS-I) officer, after clearing a written test & Interview. This promotion is subject to an upper age limit.

Clearly, Clerks in SBI get more opportunities and are likely to become officers early in comparison to those working at other banks. Due to the presence of fast-track promotion process in SBI, an entry level clerk can hope to retire at a post as high as General Manager which is usually not possible for clerks employed in other banks.
