Waxes are commonly used as a 'sacrificial layer' in many
surface coatings. Each particular type of coating has to have the right
balance of gloss, buffability, flexibility, toughness and scuff resistance and
clarity.
Furniture,
household and shoe polishes
We supply a wide range of
waxes for these polishes, such as Carnauba Wax, Montan Wax Substitute, Beeswax,
Ceresine and Ozokerite Waxes, Microcrystalline Wax and Paraffin Wax. We
can also supply the ingredients for a fully natural solvent based polish.
Car
wax
We do not manufacture car
waxes, but we have an intimate knowledge of the ingredients and what is
involved in producing a high quality car polish. Prime Yellow, also known
as Type 1 Carnauba Wax is an obvious primary ingredient. We can also
supply you with other waxes required. Please call us for more
information.
If you’re looking for a product using
established surface modifier or coating technology, chances are we have it in
stock. If you want something new, we’d like to discuss your needs. Many
customer collaborations have resulted in product breakthroughs that still lead
their markets today.
From our pioneering start in
carnauba and paraffin wax technology, we have continually expanded our
capabilities. Innovations over the years have utilized virtually every kind of
natural and synthetic wax on the market--including polyethylene, polypropylene
and ethylene-acrylic acid. Our coatings line also grows constantly as we push
the envelope of sustainable packaging technology.
Five
decades in the wax emulsions/coatings business has built our clear
understanding of the issues driving change — and the technology required for
innovation. Customers know our quality, responsiveness, technical support and
global resources can help them get to market first with new ideas.
Most authors recommend the use of wax as a
coating on top of a resin film to reduce the gloss of the surface overall or to
protect the varnish from dirt. The wax may be removed and replaced if necessary
without disturbing the underlying varnish. Wax may be used as a final coating
for a paint film that has a rough conformation that was unintended and could not
be eliminated by other means. The low luster appearance of the wax would
eliminate the highlights on the elevations. Local application may be made with
a finger or cloth to matte down overly glossy areas of a varnished painting
(proprietary wax mixtures such as Renaissance® Wax may be used for this
purpose).
An unscientific survey of painting conservators
indicates that wax alone is little used in the field as a separate final
surface coating although it continues to be used as a fill material,
consolidant, and lining adhesive. It is, however, commonly used as an additive
to the final spray coats of many natural and synthetic resins to mat them down
or create a more even surface gloss (See individual resin entries under
“Additives”). Those of us who occasionally do use waxes alone as a final
coating often have a jar of Renaissance® Wax, a proprietary formulation of
mixed microcrystalline waxes, that we have used on occasion to matte down or
even out already applied varnishes. We all (the individuals in the small
unscientific survey) seem to use this product because it is easy to use and
performs the limited use task well. So if you are looking for wax and
