Are government jobs really losing their popularity? This is a question to which people might have a varied opinion but altogether, the verdict will hint a decision in the favour of private jobs. The private sector has emerged as a mammoth recruiter for employees. The maximum number of employment in India, after the technological revolution came into boom; was seen in the private sector. They are fast placed and have modern recruitment procedures. A number of lucrative policies of the public sector such as pensions, promotions are being well adopted by the private sector too. True talent is unearthed under the selection procedure in the private sector. The government sector has started losing its sheen of being the securest method of safeguarding one’s career. Government jobs are monotonous, offer less in terms of creative methods of working and technologies.
They are greatly perceived as less challenging and brain-stimulating; more often related to earning money out of doing nothing! Youngsters these days want to work in an environment that is greatly stimulating, requires talent and bases promotions and rise in scales on the basis of skills. Government jobs in contrary have a number of rules of thumb. Promotions, upgrades, higher positions are allotted on the basis of seniority instead of the capability to perform. This might create job dissatisfaction amongst those employees who do their work with dedication and expect rewards for the same. Complacency and feelings of a mundane work environment are closely associated with government jobs.
 Average government jobs are also less in terms of monetary opportunities. Although government jobs provide relatively stronger job-immunity against private jobs; but salary hikes might be meagre and less often. The government sector needs to revive itself in a number of respects. Our country is expanding in terms of population as well as technology, something which should be kept in mind while formulating patterns for job allotment. The public sector should adopt the modern approaches of the private sector.
Government jobs are not able to satisfy the ever increasing demand for jobs and employment. For simple posts, there are thousands and lacks of applications, while the number of posts are limited to a few hundred only. Such competition rates render the youth helpless and the population with average skills have absolutely low scope of growth.
